MediCycle

Aimed at reducing pharmaceutical waste and protecting the environment, MediCycle—the first licensed household pharmaceutical waste management system—successfully hosted its first public outreach events on November 2, 2024, in collaboration with Alphamega supermarkets in Lakatamia and Engomi, Nicosia.

MediCycle staff educated the public on the dangers of improper disposal and which medicines can be returned: blister packs, tubes, inhalers, syrups, ampoules, and eye drops. Excluded from collection are cardboard packaging, vitamins, dietary supplements, needles, and other non-pharmaceutical items.

The initiative received strong support, with many people using MediCycle bins on-site. These bins will gradually be installed in pharmacies across Cyprus, encouraging citizen participation in sustainable medicine disposal.

Together, we are taking a step toward a healthier and more sustainable future.
