MediCycle

MediCycle, the first licensed system for the management of household pharmaceutical waste, has started installing collection bins in pharmacies in the Municipality of Strovolos — the first step in a broader strategy that will gradually expand across Nicosia and eventually throughout Cyprus.

The first bins were installed at:

  • The pharmacy of Ploutarchos Georgiadis (President of the Pancyprian Pharmaceutical Association) – 34Γ Tseriou St, Strovolos, 2042
  • Maria Spiritou’s Pharmacy – 109 Tseriou St, Strovolos, 2045
  • Charis Lymbouras’ Pharmacy – 229 Tseriou St, Strovolos, 2047
  • Despina Petrou’s Pharmacy – 84 Tseriou St, Strovolos, 2043

These MediCycle bins allow citizens to safely and freely dispose of expired or unusable medicines like blister packs, tubes, inhalers, syrups, ampoules, and eye drops.

Excluded items include cardboard packaging, vitamins, dietary supplements, needles, and other non-medicinal items.

After collection, MediCycle transports the waste to a licensed facility where environmentally sound disposal practices are followed—avoiding the hazards of landfill or waterway contamination, which pose serious risks to human health and ecosystems.

MediCycle is committed to its role in protecting public health and the environment through the responsible management of pharmaceutical waste.
